Marct AI 7/20 - CV for Dentistry, Google Analytics + Shopping, Scalable Feature Stores, Future of E-commerce and Medical Supply
Welcome to Marct AI edition #6, an exclusive/curated email thread for a first-look at some exciting AI-related startup opportunities + bonus gigs.
I'll put some brief thoughts with each opportunity in italics (look for AK's thoughts) on why I decided to include it/what makes it interesting compared to the thousands of other postings on the interweb. Opportunities are full-time unless indicated otherwise. Still experimenting with the format, style, and organization so expect to see some changes.
Editor's aside: hope you enjoyed the past two editions for Marct on building your own ML team (part 1: finding talent, part 2 assessing and closing talent). If you're building an ML-powered product or company in the space, I'd love to chat. Drop me a note at [email protected]! Also at readers' requests, I'll be interspersing some personal anecdotes, AI/ML recruiting pieces, industry maps, or creative writing in the future (who knows what I’ll end up writing about).
Full-time and Internships:
Black Crow AI: Machine Learning Engineer (Remote): Turnkey data science for e-commerce.
AK's thoughts: predicative intelligence platform that's a must-have for an edge in the competitive ecommerce market; countless integrations to work on from an engineering perspective; redefine ecommerce workflow with AI and a clean interface; personally spoke to awesome head of engineering; +who can turn down a 4-day work-week (which probably makes the team more productive too)!
Pearl - Machine Learning Platform Engineer (Los Angeles, Remote): future of dentistry powered by computer vision.
AK's thoughts: tackling with CV the undertapped industry of dentistry with a rich clinical dataset; developing a complete product suite including: second opinion, claims reviews, prep assess, etc; great name/logo; team with complementary expertise; delivering better bites, trillions of bytes at a time to improve how people enjoy food, nourish themselves, and reshaping healthcare.
Placer AI - Data Analyst, Big Data Tech Lead, Full Stack + more (various locations): Google Analytics for the physical world.
AK's thoughts: unique angle and problem that intersects AI with real world experiences; understanding and proactively changing how in-person retail, shopping, real-state, is done to provide fine-grain analysis and patterns for businesses to better cater to ever-changing consumer tastes; using AI like AR.
Eightfold - Engineering Intern (Santa Clara, CA): Hiring and growing people with AI.
AK's thoughts: people-driven team (ex Google Search and Personalization, News Feed ranking at FB) solving a people problem; hosting cultivate '21 summit about talent; widespread adoption globally across enterprise as well as public sector; a great grasp of employee retention, potential and skillsets are what distinguishes the best companies, and Eightfold does this with data; thoughtful products around contingent (contractors) talent and tools for DE&I programs to prevent bias.
Tecton - Software Engineer Intern (SF, NYC, remote): Enterprise Feature Store at scale.
AK's thoughts: companies innovating in feature stores, along with experimentation, monitoring, model versioning, data annotations, automl, etc, are pioneering the set of best practices and standard for AI/ML infrastructures; Dev-Ops like principles to managing features and data; primary open-source contributor to Feast (I'm have a bias for OS cos with enterprise option because of the potential for the community to aid in a smooth go-to-market); world-calibre team that created Michelangelo (Uber's ML Platform).
Misc, Random, Interesting Opportunities:
bttn. - Data Scientist and various ML/Data roles: future of medical supply.
Seed-stage startup ready to make a big impact following the tailwinds of the pandemic, already generated several hundred thousand in revenue after launching in March, and following Keith Rabois Formula for startup success of vertically integrating a fragmented industry with low NPS.
Learn more about their culture, vision, what AI/Data Science problems look like at bttn. by reading their Marct AI Profile compiled from my interview with founder JT, and mention in this application form under "Why would you like to work at bttn." you saw this opportunity in the Marct newsletter to expedite the process.
If you've read this far, reply with one goal you have this summer (can be AI-related or anything else) and we can keep each other accountable. Mine at the moment is writing at least 150 words everyday for Marct and other articles in the works.
And if you like what you're reading, please forward this to a friend who might enjoy this content. If you are just seeing this email for the first time, join this exclusive thread by filling out the form here.
